4. Single seaters

After leaving the Air Force, and moving to Waterloo, I joined the SOSA Gliding Club, near Cambridge, Ontario. The Schwietzer 1-26 was my first single-seater.

As one of the largest clubs in Canada, SOSA had the resources to provide some very nice flying hardware. In addition to their 1-26s, they had a couple of fiberglass single-seaters, several glass two-seaters, and the ubiquitous Blaniks. Their fleet (in the early 1980s) consisted of 4 single-seaters, 6 two-seaters, and 3 Citabria towplanes.
